Agenda Item: VI.A.

Consider/Approve Amendment to Board Policy #6.310 – Standard Dress Code

Background Information:

In April, 2010, all school principals met in an effort to simplify Board Policy #6.310 – Standard Dress Code. This effort led to an administrative procedure that was presented to the Board for additional comments. After Board input, minor changes were made to the original version and the attached administrative procedure will become effective with the 2010 – 2011 school year. This administrative procedure does not change Board policy or the dress code that has been in effect for several years.

Board Policy sets forth actions to be taken for dress code violations beginning with page 4 line 33 through page 5 line 7. We believe that the dress code has been in effect long enough to replace these actions with “A student will not be allowed to return to class until the dress code violation has been corrected. Repeated non-compliance is determined to be a disciplinary issue.”

Staff Recommendation:

I recommend approval of the amendment to Board Policy #6.310 – Standard Dress Code, as set forth above, on second and final reading.
